What are the Cregagh Army Cadets?

Is a uniform provided?
Yes, upon joining, cadets are issued a uniform free of charge on loan from the Ministry of Defence. This uniform needs to be returned when you leave the organisation.
What do I need to buy?
The main item you'll need to purchase is a good pair of boots. Your Detachment Commander can offer recommendations for local suppliers.
What activities do cadets do?
Cadets participate in a wide range of activities including basic training, 1-Star to 4-Star training, adventurous training (like camping and expeditions), shooting, fieldcraft, first aid, communications and information systems (CIS), military knowledge, sports, and skill at arms.
Can I do the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE)?

What are the benefits of joining?
Joining helps foster self-confidence, teamwork, leadership skills, physical fitness, and a sense of belonging. Cadets can also gain qualifications and valuable life skills. It can also provide insight if considering a career in the Army.
Can I gain any qualifications?
Yes, senior cadets can work towards vocational qualifications, including BTEC Level 2 qualifications in Public Services and Music, and the ILM Level 2 Certificate in Team Leading, through the Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation (CVQO).
Do I have to join the Army?

What are the rules for hair?
Hair must be kept neat and tidy when on cadet activities, back from the face and ears, and allow for headdress to be worn properly. Specific guidelines apply for longer hair for both male and female cadets (e.g., bun, ponytail, braids, or secured above the collar).
Is foreign travel possible?
Yes, there are opportunities for expeditions and cadet exchange trips to various international destinations.
What is Annual Camp?
Annual Camp is typically a highlight of the cadet year, where cadets go away with other cadets in their ACF Battalion / County for up to two weeks during school holidays. It involves learning new skills and putting existing training into practice.
We aim to inspire young people aged between 12 (and in Year 9 at school) and 18 years of age to achieve and develop the qualities of a good citizen - whilst having lots of FUN! The training we deliver helps foster self-confidence, teamwork and a sense of belonging to the ACF family and the local community.
We are recruiting for new Cadets in the BT4, BT5 and BT6 areas.
