The cadet syllabus is designed to be progressive, allowing cadets to build on their previous learning and advance steadily through their time in the Army Cadets, which can last up to six years. The syllabus also includes an elective element, giving cadets the freedom to choose a path that suits their interests.
All cadet training must align with the Cadet Charter (ACF or CCF) and be relevant to cadets' needs. Even if the relevance of certain lessons is not immediately apparent, they can still provide valuable experiences, such as developing teamwork, communication, leadership, and physical fitness skills. For example, cadets learn a section attack not to prepare for an actual attack, but to develop these important skills.
We aim to inspire young people aged between 12 (and in Year 9 at school) and 18 years of age to achieve and develop the qualities of a good citizen - whilst having lots of FUN! The training we deliver helps foster self-confidence, teamwork and a sense of belonging to the ACF family and the local community.
We are recruiting for new Cadets in the BT4, BT5 and BT6 areas.

The syllabus is designed for progression in the following approximate timeline, with no rigid timescales imposed on cadets:
Basic Training: 3 months
1-Star: A further 9 months
2-Star: A further 12 months
3-Star: A further 18 months
4-Star: A further 6 months
To earn each Star, cadets must complete and record a specific number of modules. Once cadets have completed the required number of modules, they will be awarded the Star grade badge.
The following sections provide more detail on these modules. Click on the pictures for more information - opens on the armycadets.com website:
These activities influence our cadets’ and CFAVs’ personal development and inspire them to achieve their full potential. They provide an opportunity to engage in arduous and challenging activities that significantly enhance our cadets’ and CFAVs’ ability to identify and manage risk and they develop teamwork, leadership and moral courage.
One of the most exciting activities you’ll get to do in the Army Cadets is shooting. It is the main activity that differentiates the Army Cadets from most other youth organisations. Learning about shooting will teach you a number of key skills, the most important of which are discipline and safety awareness. It also brings with it a great sense of achievement.
We require a number of our adults to undertake formal First Aid qualifications to ensure that there is suitable First Aid provision in place for all the activities we carryout. In addition, all cadets receive training in lifesaving first aid skills to enable them to cope in the event of an accident or incident.
As an Army Cadet you will have the option to take part in a variety of sports and competitions such as athletics, cross country, swimming, football, rugby, hockey, orienteering and tug-of-war. All sports involve both boys and girls. But before you reach the national finals, there are regional heats to compete in.
